The Northeast Megaregion is home to approximately 20% of the US population and accounts for 85% of daily commuter rail traffic. Each city in the region has its own commuter and light rail system, which combined constitutes the most complex urban rail network in the country. The Great North East Map serves as a tool to help riders and residents find out not only how far their city's systems extend, but where different connection points exist between their system, local rapid transit, and adjacent networks. The map also identifies frequency of service for lines and individual stations, as well as major hubs that operate on the local, municipal, regional, and national levels. A common graphic and design language, as well as a set of standards, helps to emphasize the scale of inter-connectivity of the region's rail system.
